The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop - VERY INTERESTING! Each book averages over 400pages, and I read the whole triology in a week, averaging over a hundred pages a day, after working between 5 and 7 hours each day.  This from someone who hardly reads.  It's dark and has characters you really understand.  As my mom would put it, "it has steamy parts".  *hint hint*  It really is dark.  But its lots of fun too, and is better written than anything I've read or heard of in a long time.  It has it's numerous funny parts along with the mystery and drama.  I highly recommend this series if you don't mind a few too many dark descriptions.  Trust me, You'll want to go to Bishop's website for a few scenes cut from the books...they're cool.  *****

The Dolphins of Pern by Anne McCaffrey - Interesting. I bought it in at BookWorld in St. Ignace, needing to grab something and run, not to make my parents wait too long.  I saw the dragon on the cover, assumed it said "The Dragons of Pern" and ran to the checkout line.  It has an interesting story line, and I think that if I hadn't grabbed a random book throughout the series, it would have made more sense.  I wish they would explain Thread...is it fallout from the Red Star? Why can Dolphins eat Thread? How do you move the Red Star out of orbit? I thought Delky was some fat wingless dragon....not a horse.  How does it jump from 102 years after the Landing, to 2500?!! What was the point of Lord Toric...?  *shrugs* It made for interesting, if not confusing, reading, but kept my mind occupied.  I thought it was most interesting in last 100 pages when Readis ran away...but the happy ending came right after...too happy too quickly? I guess I just wouldn't react the way these characters do.  I also find the summary of the author very strange.  I believe that this story may have made more sense if I was more aware of the world of Pern...but the ending of this story doesn't make me feel inclined to believe that these particular characters have anything else to do with any of her books..  **
